What is beauty? - beauty of artist.

Why do we know Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol even there were more than thousand artists in the same period they lived? People who do not study art even know them as great artists. Beauty of society was bit fine to think about, but beauty of artist, this is really my unsolved answer of question and personal opinion. 

The last post 'beauty of society' is written for showing that each societies have had different beauty standards. Actually I feel bit clear about 'Beauty of society', but I'm really not sure about 'beauty of artists.'. The questions simple, Does artist make new 'beauty of society' or just follow 'beauty of society' society made?. 

Paintings by Piet Mondrian. We can see process of his painting getting simpler. In the same period of he lived, many of painters tried to make new form of painting. And mostly painters start to break real object down and make them simple. Also Pablo Picasso has done this kind of process as well, and he invented cubism.

I believe camera was the most important thing caused huge changing of art especially painting. Before human have camera, there is no way to save visual image except painting. Rolling class want to keep their portraits, so they had to be in front of painter to get painted their portraits by painters. However, camera which can make much more realistic portraits, and that was much more faster than painter.

Demand for painting has a rapidly decrease, and a huge wind of change was blowing through the art world. I guess there are two ways to have process what artists have done. The first, artists were trying to be different from camera for demand of societies. The second, artists had desire to break traditional form, and they did it when rolling class focused on camera which was very interesting new medium.

I think the first way is more about following beauty of society. And the second is more about following desire of artists. I just realize something now when I just write this sentence. Following beauty of society and following desire of artist are making new beauty, both of them try to make new beauty. When public feel interesting about something new, that will be new beauty of society. And artists are public as well.

Artists are one part of society trying to make beauty. All people in societies are making beauty such as scientists, singers, office worker and even street booth worker. The all people called public include artists are making new candidates of beauties and choosing new beauty of society.

It does not matter printer print visual image by human control or just random system. If that was beautiful, public would choose that as new beauty of society. And that public is also including artists.

What is beauty? - beauty of society.

Beauty, which feel like being really close to us who is involved visual art. How people can feel beautiful or how can people see beautiful were my huge question after studying little bit of aesthetics and art histories. I can feel there are lots of way to have beautiful emotions, so I just want to try to understand about way to feel beautiful, having beautiful emotions or things whatever about beauty.

This is the venus of willendorf(4.25inch), made between 28000 and 25000 BCE. It was founded in 1908, near village 'willendorf in lower Austria. I think this is good thing to start to talk about beauty. Ancient art's beauty is usually set by need and desire. Ancient needed food and manpower. This two desires would able to be solved by childbirth, so breast and hips which represent childbirth were the most important part for beauty. Therefore, hand, arm and face which do not relate to childbirth were almost disappear.

The most interesting point is face is skipped as well. It could mean face was nothing important at all even face is important point for human beauty in this age. This show each age, society or group could have totally different beauty point. And beautiful point can be everything, even somethings have been felt disgusting could be beautiful for someone or some society.

I can not sure about this small status was made to show beauty for that society, but I am sure about it showed beauty of that society is much more possible. This is because even one small child' drawing was tended to be beautiful. I believe art tend to aim an ideal for society or group. Age when religion was the most important, art described The Bible, The Buddhist scriptures and The Koran. Religion was the most important in that kind of age. In this way, most of art has been displayed beauty of society. In this way, the point human feel beauty can be background of object such as idea, religion and legend. Or It can be just simple part of visual looking.

This is an old painting of korean painter 'yun-bok shin', called 'Portrait of a Beauty'. This painting shows beautiful girl of 18 centuries' korean girl, but I am quite sure all korean won't feel she is beautiful, only based on looking. However I am feeling beautiful from this painting, because it is classic. The idea 'this painting shows beautiful girl of 18 centuries korean girl.' makes me thinking this is cool and beautiful with this normal looking girl.

The way of my thinking, the classic caused me feel cool from this painting is also change able just like I do not feel beautiful from looking of girl in the painting. Some previous ages were ignoring historical things. If I was living that kind of society, this painting would be just not ugly painting was meant to paint beautiful girl. 

It does not mean all ages have specific ideal beauty, It does mean ideal beauty of society is very changeable. And it is not only based on visual looking. 

This is what I have been studying about beauty of society.

Since anxiety caused competition. - Meaning of pattern what I made in this modern age.

'To have a better and happy life.' is a answer of my question 'why are we all in competition?'. Lots of history show that human have done wars with various obligation of warfare and various purpose. And also some wars are still on going now.

'Anxiety about lacking of surplus possession' is a reason why we are starting competition. And this pattern what I insert picture above is one of the symbol of that anxiety, but I think this pattern is not symbol of anxiety anymore in this modern age. I'm not sure what this pattern has been changed in this modern society. I just reckoned that it's bit more like a desire to be better. It's really visual image that I can not really explain even my own first language.
This anxiety about lacking of surplus possession caused war to take other one's surplus possession. However I think that we are doing that for protect our surplus possessions. this is not only about war. Just so many ideas come to my mind, which I'm not sure about it.

I'm just sure about 'Anxiety about lacking of surplus possession' is origin why we all start to be in competition. And 'To be better and to have a happy life.' which mean development of humanity is reason why we are in competition. Therefore, this 'competition' mean that all kind of social happen in the world, which is dividing countries, working in companies what we all usually do to earn money.

So that concept of pattern what I designed with Anxiety has been changed in this modern age. That is much more clever than before, and I think it's really close to us. That is what I want to find.

Anxiety.

This is what I designed to express an anxiety. I was focus on 'An anxiety about lacking of surplus possession.' after researching prehistoric stuff. I was thinking that an anxiety about lacking of surplus possession caused competition what all we are doing. Since we have a possession, we start to have an anxiety about it's possible to lose. And starting to lose surplus stuffs and lacking of surplus stuffs is the most anxious time to do something can be bad to relieve anxiety.

This small answer is what I found for my question 'Why are we all in competition?'. The anxiety in my research was the most interesting thing, and it's inspired me a lot to make works.

Making a work with this key word is still on going now. I have just made one film with the shape what  I put on top. The title of this film is 'An anxiety.', I was just trying to express being anxious. I hope this simply composition of screen is helpful to express this simply idea which is just about an anxiety.
My researching is still on going now, I'm trying to develop my idea with competition of modern society. I believe that my meaningless study of advertisement could be useful for this research.

The best winner of winners. - Exit through the gift shop.

This is film is the most interesting video I have ever watched. I have watched this movie 4 times including few mins ago. Every time I have watched this film with my new questions, and this film show me different hint for my new questions. Street art, advertisement and art were the most interesting source of my questions in this research. And I think that I'm just curious about relation between money and art. I think that art can't avoid from commercial world. Art is already part of commerce, but I believe that artist can avoid from commercial even art works are on commercial world.

Director of this film is Banksy who is mysterious street artist. (One putative picture of unmasked banksy have been revealed few months ago.) Anyway, Banksy mentioned that Street are up for auctions is crazy, and he think that is not street artist want to do.

Funny french guy, Thierry Guetta is the main character of this film. He used to be shop owner of vintage clothes shop. He just bought huge box of vintage clothes and pick up some clothes to sell, and when some clothes have different line of sawing, he just called it designer clothes to sell more expensive way. Which is show that he is person who is good at business.

Anyway this film just talking about how vintage shop owner become an artist. He is addicted to film every moment of his life due to he lost her mum died when he was young. After his mum died when he was just in school and nobody tell him anything about it, he just start to flim everything. He flim almost all of his life, but he never watch video what he filmed again.

Street artist, Space invader who is relation of Thierry Guetta is a reason why Thierry Guetta start to film street artists. He just start filming after holiday in paris, He have filmed Shepard Fairy and lots of street artists, and just tell them he will make documentary when artists ask him 'why are you filming it?'. Banksy was one of that artist, and Banksy ask him to make a film to show what is street art to people. Thierry guetta made a film. Six months later Thierry Guetta went to banksy to show, bt it was just messy and totally crazy. So Banksy just tell him to leave types what he filmed, and tell him 'how about trying new things? like art?'

That one sentence was the start of everything. Thierry Guetta just start street art with nickname 'Brainwash.'. He just think all street is just show people again and again repeatedly. Which is just like a brainwash.
After that, It's just simple story with Thierry Guetta' nice business and gift for art. He just get lots of art employee to do his project and borrow huge space to have the first exhibition. And asking Banksy to give him some writing to publicize. Mass media was interested in his story including Banksy writing. He just successfully finished his first exhibition. And Banksy said he will not recommend other people to try art like that anymore in the film.

When I watched this film first time, I was just enjoyed street art and watching Banksy. And the second was just focus on Thierry Guetta is artist or not. And I was starting to focus on a relation between money and art from third time.
I'm bit sure about everyone can be artist when they just call them artist and the public accept that. I think public judgement is the most important thing to be artist. It might be only for me, cuz I wanna talk with people.
And the relation between money and art are the question what I could not really find any answer. However I found one hint of answer from this film again. Money and art, the hint was the title of this film. Something made by human could be all relate to commerce. Maybe the real winner is person who have gift shop near exit. And maybe common winners are just persons who are good at making something to make stocks for gift shop.

The power of an advertisement.

Actually I almost give up to define difference between an advertisement and fine art, but I'm still into advertisements. I have read few books about advertisement to try to define difference. Power of advertisements is new deeply interesting thing. An advertisements have the power to make object looks better or high quality depend on how organizer aim to do no matter what quality of objects. This is the most attractive power to have as a creator. Forget about meaningless researching about difference, and let me try to get this power.

This society where we live is a capitalistic society. We won't farm crops and make clothes, but we all need food and drink enough to keep us alive, clothes to keep us warm and dry. We earn money and buy something we need. We need to buy everything we need. And advertisements are involved in almost all our choice what we are going to buy. This is why people usually think advertisement is only relate to company.

However, personally I think that the most strongest power of advertisement is changing and forming  notion, concept and Idea what we have own. For example, North korea which is socialistic society are using advertisement to brainwash people into deification of Kim's family.

And also said on down poster 'I like the military game killing U.S army is fun.'

Advertisements are not only thing government of north korean do. They also have been making film, telly program and planning a class for ideology education to brainwash people. wPeople of north korean have been brainwashed for more than 50 years until now. By chance, I have met few north korean defector in south korea due to my aunt who is human right activist. They said north korean people seriously think that all of countries in the world are much more poor than north korea. And meeting and hand shaking with Kim jung ill is the best honor prize for north korean people. 

I didn't mean advertisements can brainwash people into deification like north korean. Power of advertisement is not that much strong, but I think that It's strong enough to cause some people want to do something what organizer was aimed with nice design and a image. 

So, I just tried to make funny advertisements with concept of child labour. This is kind of my present project practice as well. Images what designed wasn't really same as I expected, but it was kind of fun to design it.

I was just starting from Nepal. Glamorization child labour was my purpose to practice power of advertisement, but something is just looks like childbirth encouragement policy poster. And the most big problem was my english writing. I can't really know what it feel like when english people read it. 

This is starbucks version, but I found that 'Global Human Rights Standard - Starbucks' said they supporting to stop child labour. I just realized that I need to be careful to talk about something not truths. Anyway I was planning to make nike and few of other company more, but it was not that fun and interesting to do, and I could not sure about all truths. And I didn't even really sure about my english writing on advertisements what I made. However I surely could feel that advertisement have a interesting power that I want to have. Then, I'm still thinking about how to try it.

Question : 'Why are we all in competition?' - Since we had a surplus food.

"Why are we all in competition?", this is a question of my project recently. My previous work was just talking about how we compete like dividing territories, but recently I got into looking for reason why we are in competition, and when did we started. 

Surplus was one reason I found. I think that human start to compete since human got a surplus crop. Having a surplus crop was a symbol of fortune. Before starting farming in stone age, human just need to hunt and gather whole day to be alive, this time they don't have any time to compete and reason to compete. However, they got a time and a crop after starting farm work in the bronze age(There was a farm work in the stone age, but it was not that serious and successful to have a surplus crop.). Using bronze tools is definitely more handier than stone tools.

Personally I think competition to have a surplus crop in the latest stone age is the beginning of our  possessions. And The bronze age is the period begin competition in earnest.

The first vestige of priest have been found in the bronze age. Which can mean that the first vestige of a tribal chief. Priest as a reader of brief adorned with bronze accessory. Bronze stuffs such as accessory and mirror was the most valuable thing at that period time.

So how could they get that kind of the most value things at that time? This is because they are a only way to increase their crops. Agricultural produce was the most powerful and important thing in the prehistoric age.  Ancient religion is usually involved in a ceremony for weather and harvest. People in that time strongly believe that crop will have a increase by priest. That people totally believe that priest got a power from the sky to care them and control weather. People have to give them valuable things for their harvest. I think that this kind of community solidarity could encourage them to work hard with belief confidence by ceremony.

Real competition was starting after having an increase surplus crop reached the limit. Probably general public people start possess surplus crop and few bronze stuff, after they had a enough food and spare time. Territory would be not enough to population growth at that time. When it's starting to lack, their surplus food is not that much more than before. And they are starting to be anxious. General public's anxiety are also anxiety of class of rule. And they are starting to watch another tribals. And plundering started to get enough surplus again.

This is what I thought about origin of my question 'why all we are in competition'. I think that lacking of surplus was one of the reason we are in competition. An Evidence of the earliest war can be found in time between the latest stone age and the earliest bronze age in reality.

In addition, I think surplus possessions is also relate to have spare time to develop own technology. Having spare time caused them to try to do something is not relate to be alive for the present, but that trying to do something is not useful caused development. The stone age, The bronze age and the iron age. Which is process of developments are relate to spare time. In the stone age, they pick up stones which looks good to use. And after that period of time, they realized that they can grind and sharpen stones to use which took so much more time than picking up stones. Also, a melting point of bronze is 1000 degree and a melting point of iron is 1500 degree. Which means stage of developments in prehistoric age after the stone age are also relate to how long does it take a time to melt each materials.
In the stone age, people didn't have a time to care about melting something looks like a stone for them. After they get much more plenty food, they discovered that they can melt bronze what was just look like stones. Of course, it's not all people try to discover how to melt bronze when people have spare time to do what they want at that time, but even one person of hundred people who took their own time can get into a funny stone which is meltable.

To conclude, I got an answer of my question 'why are we all  in competition?'. I think that we are in competition to have much more spare time to do what we want freely. And that freely spare time caused development. Even thought the standard of living balance could be unfair, the minimum standard of living has been increasing. We compete to have better life.

Meaningless study about definition of difference between an advertisement and a fine art.

An advertisement and an art especially street art are the most interesting things what I have been researching recently. Both of those things have messages and want to receive attention from people. All people know these two kind of things are totally different. However the more I found their similarity, the more I have curious about what is difference between those things. 

People usually think all advertisements are commercial. This thinking is the strongest stereotype of advertisement as I thought that as well, but there is easy example of proving that advertisement is not only for commerce. Public advertisement is the example. We all know it's not for business without any explanation.

I have reckoned that what is different between advertisements and art pieces after discovery. My art always try to tell and talk about my idea. It totally seems to be similar to advertisement. And, it was bit easy to find similarity between my previous work and advertisement as you can see above this paragraph. My work is just bit more violent than public advertisement. I was thoroughly confused about my art and difference between art and advertisement for a while.

Having a message, trying to receive attention and design a image. lots of similarities are most interesting things in this research. There are few differences between those things. Advertisement usually want some part of people watch their advertisement for effectivity of advertisement. So organizer try to put their advertisement somewhere could be more effective such as classified advertisement. However this difference was not crucial reason to make me sure about my question, because Public advertisement is usually don't have specific target, and some art has a similar feature of advertisement want to be effective to specific people.

In fact, an advertisement is also one kind of art in different part of a fine art. They are using various way for various purpose. Sometime, its just for profit growth. And, some advertisements try to show what they are doing and how much quality they have even it's not exactly truth. This could make me more get into confusion.

Anyway I found one thing the most different thing between my art and advertisement, that could make me sure to answer my question. Difference in doubt is what creator want to people do after people watch outcomes. Advertisement have a fixed purpose even public advertisement is for persuading people to do something or stop doing something, but I don't really want people do something after watching my works. I just want people think something even it's totally different things what I couldn't expected. Tiny thinking can change everything is the my strongest belief.

Public advertisement is the most interesting and the most complex thing is this research. It might be a same role as a fine art. Or my work is similar to public advertisement. Perhaps Trying to compare kind of arts is meaningless in this open-mined art world.
